In January, Christie’s London auction hall became a sanctuary of sound. Under the title “The Jeff Beck Collection”, the legendary British musician’s iconic guitars were offered to the world in one of the most emotional and culturally significant auctions of the year.
Each instrument — from the Fender Stratocasters that accompanied his most memorable tours to unique pieces intervened by contemporary artists — told fragments of a life devoted to innovation and musical sensitivity. Yet the event transcended collectability; it became a tribute to generosity.
Among the most notable lots were works by Argentine artist Andrés Mariani, jointly signed by Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp, his close friend and collaborator. These pieces were auctioned in support of Folly Wildlife Rescue, a British charity dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of wildlife, of which Beck was a patron. Today, his legacy continues through his wife Sandra Beck and Johnny Depp.
Christie’s transformed the pre-auction exhibition into a multisensory experience — illuminated vitrines, immersive audio featuring unreleased recordings, and an atmosphere that seemed to pulse with the heartbeat of British blues.
